MBP retina GPU support (NVIDIA GT 650M)?

Can you try installing the CUDA driver from nVidia (you may have to get it from the CUDA developer zone) and see what happens? Stock OS X has a quite broken CUDA install, if I remember properly (it does things like report an huge number of GPUs, all invalid, which would cause exactly what you're seeing).

That's weird... though OS X uses a /lot/ of GPU memory for the OS, which can lead to this problem.

Try rebooting & launching directly after reboot. Unfortunately, there is no way to tell OS X to use less video RAM, and the retina display takes a lot of it.
