What is the best video card for the money? Looking to spend $3-500, more towards $300 if possible/not much difference.

Also I need one that will work with Ubuntu.

Find a 7970 with a decent rebate. Best overall card, hands down.

I can get them all day long for about $400, and you can find cheaper.

Thanks!

How about this one:
XFX Double D FX-797A-TDBC Radeon HD 7970 Black Edition 3GB 384-bit

It will work with Ubuntu and JTR, yes?

Ubuntu, yes.

JTR... yeah, most likely. Depends on the current state of their OpenCL support.

Cryptohaze? Definitely. :)

No. In any distro, you'll have to install the binary drivers from the AMD website to get OpenCL working.
