Invalid Device Symbol

Postby mastergamer » Wed Feb 11, 2009 10:47 pm

Just downloaded the windows version and got this output when I ran it:

C:\stuff\cracker>multiforcer -f bradhines.txt -o output.txt -c charsets\charsetlower -h MD5 --min=1 --max=6 -v
Cryptohaze.com CUDA Multiforcer (multiple hash brute forcer)
by Bitweasil
Version 0.61 beta, length 0-14
Currently supported hash types: MD5 MD4 NTLM
Hash type: MD5
Verbose mode enabled.
CUDA Device Information:
Device 0: "GeForce 9800 GT"
Number of cores: 112
Clock rate: 1.50 GHz
Charset loaded (26 characters)
Charset: abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz
Hashes loaded (42 hashes)
Cuda error: invalid device symbol.

C:\stuff\cracker>

Other CUDA apps work fine (BarsWF for example). What can I do to fix this?

I've seen that in other cases and have not been able to successfully reproduce it on any of my systems.

I believe it is caused by low video RAM, and my code not properly detecting the failures to allocate RAM.

Can you reboot & try again with no other applications running? I've added video RAM checks in the next release, but it's not quite done yet.

What version of Windows? I'd like to fix this if I can track it down, but I'm not able to reproduce it locally. :(

I get the same error on my second machine, using again Ubuntu 8.10 with the latest nvidia-drivers. Hardware is a 9500GT with 512 MB RAM. On my first machine (9600GT with also 512 MB) it runs straight forward.

Alright. I'll add some more error handling code to the upcoming release & hopefully get something of use.

If you have AIM/Yahoo/IRC/etc, shoot me a PM - if there's any way I could get a user level account on a system that was failing and a bit of dev time, I might be able to track it down.

At the moment, it seems to be impossible to put a PM. I always get an error message from the server. Maybe you can try to contact me via Yahoo-messenger, my id there is [email protected]. I can grant you ssh-login on my machine.
